The Articles of Incorporation

The final look at the Articles of Incorporation, this is composed primarily of "legal jargon". Its primary purpose seems to be a sworn affirmation of the value attached to the materials and services purchased from Hugh Gantt.

From page 9:

Before me, the undersigned authority, a Notary Public in and for Brown County, Texas, on this day personally appeared Joe Z. Stevens and L. M. Brooks, both to me well known, and being by me first duly sworn make oath and say:

Affiants are residents of Brown County, Texas. Affiant Joe Z. Stevens is in the insurance business in said county, and affiant L. M. Brooks is in the farming and real estate business.

Affiants are familiar with the equipment, services and valuations itemized in the foregoing and attached list being conveyed and delivered by H. H. Gantt, of Mayfield, Kentucky, to a corporation in process of being formed and chartered under the laws of the State of Texas, to be known as Texans, Inc., with its principal office and place of business in the City of Bangs, Brown County, Texas.

The list attached and the values set opposite each respective item therein is a true and correct list of said property and the reasonable cash of each item therein listed is, in the opinion of affiants, a fair reasonable value of the items and equipment and services therein set forth.

This affidavit and appraisal is made by us at the request of the stockholders of the foregoing corporation, and we understand is to be used by the Secretary of State in arriving at the value of said equipment, services, etc. and granting a charter to said corporation.

Subscribed and sworn to before me by Joe Z. Stevens and L. M. Brooks on this the 13 day of July, 1951.
E.B. Elliot, Notary Public in and for Brown County, Texas.
